On 18 Sep 1896, Elizabeth Chandler swore a claim for a widow's pension in Montague County, Court before S.L. Newman. M.J. Davis, age 56, and F.H. Jones, age 43, witnessed the claim. They both claimed to have known Elizabeth for about 20 years.

The pension was approved on 25 Jan 1897, payable from 2 Aug 1896, at a rate of $8 per month.

On 2 Feb 1897, Montague County Sheriff, W.S. Jameson, composed a letter on behalf of Elizabeth, to inform the Pension Department that she previously sent them something to the wrong address.

The last payment to Elizabeth was made on 4 May 1901, and she was officially dropped from the roll on 26 Sep 1903.

J.W. Kirkpatrick, age 79, who knew the Chandlers before their marriage. Mr. Kirkpatrick lived in Decatur, Georgia.
W.M. Ragsdale, ordinary for DeKalb County, Georgia, who swore an affadavit regarding the unavailability of a courthouse marriage record.
R.M. Bourland, age 48, who had known the Chandlers since 1865.
M.J. Davis, age 56, who had known the Chandlers for 20 years and had been the Clerk of Montague County Court from 1888 to 1896
